Former Minnesota Vikings receiver Kenny Clark join forces with Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless and other local celebrities to serve warm meals to the homeless on a cold day in Atlanta...
ATLANTA, GA, January 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kenny Clark may not be a track star, but he has been forced to jump over some pretty big hurdles the past 3 years since his injury.
The former Minnesota Vikings receiver—who retired due to injury in 2006 has overcome 3 major surgeries since his rookie year, including the surgery that ended his career. Rather than becoming discouraged over his struggles, however, Clark is simply taking life as it comes to him.
Clark will never get back on the football field again; however he is eager to make an impact in the Atlanta community.
On Monday, Clark joined Bravo TV's Project Runway Mychael Knight, St. Louis Rams Linebacker Chris Draft, and many other volunteers from Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless at Turner Field in Atlanta.
After being forced to retire from football, Clark was simply thankful to have had the opportunity to lend a helping hand on Monday.
Clark was unable to do any heavy lifting on Monday due to his injury. In fact he visited the urgent care facility just hours before he was scheduled to volunteer today. However, Clark was determined to show off his serving skills by preparing plates for the thousands of attendees. He also took photos with guest and gave encouraging words to the many volunteers who spent their day at the site.
Clark said, "The volunteers who came out here and took the time out of their busy schedules just to help out the community and help out these families did a great job showing that Atlantans do care.
"It was a great feeling to actually get in there and do a little work with those guys." Clark has certainly come a long way since being his injury, as for getting back into somewhat of his normal routine it still poses a challenge for him.
A 5-year NFL veteran, Clark has learned not to take a single moment for granted.
For Clark, being able to participate in Monday's dinner was his chance to give back, which is something he thinks every NFL player should do.
As for the Hosea Feed the Hungry MLK dinner, Clark will not forget the many volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and gave up their day to better the lives of many underprivileged families. More importantly he will never forget the thousands of faces that came to receive a hot meal on such a cold day.
